Dulles Day Festival and Plane Pull

15 West Homes September 7, 2023

We live in such a vibrant community here in Northern Virginia and we want to share new things to do and try with you! Enjoy our weekly suggestions for new or old adventures. And if you have one we don’t know about – be sure to let us know! This week we are featuring the annual Dulles Day Festival and Plane Pull.

Not Your Ordinary Visit to Dulles Airport

Every year, aviation enthusiasts gather at the Dulles International Airport for – the Dulles Day Festival and Plane Pull. This unique festival combines the excitement of aviation with the strength and teamwork of a tug-of-war. It is a must-attend event for families and friends looking to experience something out of the ordinary.

Plane Pull

One of the main attractions of the festival is the Plane Pull competition. Teams of up to 25 participants come together to see if they can pull a massive aircraft, typically a 164,000-pound Boeing 757, across the tarmac. It’s not just about raw strength; it’s about coordination, strategy, and determination. Teams compete for the fastest pull time. Watching ordinary people unite to move a plane that’s larger than life is simply awe-inspiring. Plus, it’s all for a good cause – the event raises funds for Special Olympics Virginia, making it a heartwarming and impactful day for everyone involved.

Fun for All

Aside from the Plane Pull, the Dulles Day Festival offers a range of activities for all ages. Attendees can explore aircraft displays, check out classic cars, take a ride on a fire truck, and much more. The festival also caters to a diverse audience with vendors, music, and games for the kids. The Dulles Day Festival and Plane Pull promises a day of excitement and community. On top of that, attendees get to witness the incredible power of human teamwork.

This event only happens once a year so be sure to check it out! Get additional details here.
